Spoken words... they can bless, encourage, bring joy, praise, show love, kindness and build up. Or they can curse, bring condemnation, show hatred, kill and tear down. Such power you have in your spoken words. I’ve heard it takes seven positive words to counteract one negative comment. The old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me,” is not true. They actually can break a heart to the point of no return, if Jesus isn’t allowed to heal that heart.

Funny how you remember the bad words spoken over you more than the good ones. It shouldn’t be that way. The enemy is relentless at whispering lies into your ear, but he also reminds you of all the negative words spoken over you. He replays the scene in your mind thousands of times, but this is where you must stop and give all those hurts to Jesus.

I encourage you today to speak life into every person, especially your family and children, but also into every conversation. Make it a point to always build up, not tear down. An encouraging word goes a long way. It matters. Be the difference!

Battles will inevitably come my way. Battles with my spouse, my children, coworkers, friends and neighbors. But it’s really not them I am fighting. I am fighting the enemy of my soul. The one who wants to steal, kill and destroy me. So how do I fight something I cannot see?

I fight it with the Word of God. It is my greatest weapon. The enemy must flee at the Word of God. Jesus teaches us this when He was in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights. Jesus was weak and alone and the enemy wanted to overcome Him with lies, but Jesus simply fought back by quoting the Word of God. It’s more powerful than anything in this world, for it will not return void. When it is spoken, it must come to pass.

What weapon are you using to combat the enemy?

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭‬‬

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭‬‬

Oh Lord, You are my Hiding Place. Consume me, Father. I pray Lord, You would possess my heart, my soul, my body, my mind, will, and my emotions. I give myself to You, Lord. If there is anything in my heart that is not of You, show me so I may repent and make it right. I am Yours. Do with me as You wish. I am Your servant. Use me to further Your Kingdom. Give me a heart like Yours. One that looks beyond the dirt, grime and stench of this world. Help me to see people with Your eyes. Help me to see the soul of each individual and to remember that You died for them, just as much as You died for me.

I come to You in this Safe Place to bear my soul to You. You care about every tiny detail of my life and You desire for me to share with You what I am feeling and what I long for. I long for You. Heal me, redeem me, set me free from the cares of this world. Consume me Lord to the uttermost so that I may fulfill Your purpose for my life and please You. That is my greatest desire. I love You, Lord. You are my very best Friend.
