How to Forgive Yourself A Summer Series, Day 14

10 Reasons you should forgive yourself.

Reason 9, Part 3

False Guilt

It does not seem ‘just’ that we get away with our failure so easily. But God says it is just. He uses that very word! In 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

It is for this very reason that we are required to forgive ourselves, because God says so. How can it bless Him, bring Him honor and glory, when He forgives us, but we don’t forgive ourselves? Can you imagine how much that mentality hurts Christ? It’s like saying what He did for us on the cross was not enough. God has given us the gospel, a word that simply means “good news,” that all our sins have been fully paid for with the death of His Son.

Total forgiveness is an offer, and we have not fully accepted the package if we don’t forgive ourselves totally. Yes, it does seem too good to be true. But the gospel of Jesus Christ is too good to be true! God does not want you to feel guilty, but Satan does. Our weapon to overcome will always be the same–the blood of Jesus!
